well that's new... |
"Seriously, Patrick. How many pizzas do we need?" She said laughing on the other side of the phone. They were planning a super awesome time inside while they were in pg mode with the little kid. She never thought she'd be into kids, but she couldn't lie, Lewis was pretty cute and she'd share her pizza with him anytime he wanted it. She was just getting off of work for the night and Patrick was oh so cutely giving her demands of what he wanted her to bring over to eat. It made her laugh because it was usually her who was the demanding one and when it came to food, so she definitely enjoyed this change of pace. "Breadsticks, too," she said with a little whine, "That was a lot of carbs we're going to consume," she said in a teasing fashion. She moved her phone from one hand to the other as she was trying to turn her body away from her coworkers who were looking at her, and noticing her smile. She didn't really smile much so naturally, they were trying to figure out who was on the other end of that conversation who was making her smile.
There was one particular girl who was watching everything that was coming out of her mouth, and possibly the way her mouth was twisting into a smile with every word that came out. She couldn't help it. He was making her happy, and for the first time in a while, she was genuinely happy. She noticed out the corner of her eye that the girl was still loitering in the back at her with a goofy smile on her face. Even though she and Cate were friends, she tried not to show that she was annoying her. Instead, she looked over at the girl and gave her a little smile before she said her goodbyes. "I'll be over in ninety minutes. I'm driving like an old lady in Brandon's rental. I can't get used to it yet." Her car. Her poor precious 2014 cherry red Dodge Avenger was still in the shop getting worked on. She found her car almost a week ago on all fours, with all of the doors dented. She still doesn't know what happened to her car, or that it was one of the tragic casualties of when Carol was filled with gluttony on that horrible Tuesday night. All she knew was her car was vandalized, and she should probably invest in better insurance if this was going to keep happening every month, she thought. "I'm going to get those garlic things too," she teased back on the phone to Patrick. "Oh and a brownie. Hey if we're going to indulge on food, we might as well go all the way out." She still had about thirty minutes to go before it was time for her to leave for the night. It was weird how much of a good mood she was in right now. She didn't know if it was because she was going to devour a lot of delicious treats in a few hours or that she was going home to see him. Either way, she wasn't going to worry about what was going on with her now. Cate has been wound up so much lately, that it was actually good to be in a great mood, she thought. It was finally time to get out of the restaurant for the night, and she couldn't have been happier. She walked over toward her locker in the back to retrieve her things. That's when the one that was spying on her at the phone came up to her with a smile on her face and asked, "Are you going to see your boy," she said teasingly. It was annoying, but she didn't deny it. Instead, she just smiled at the girl before she lifted her head and said in a cheery voice, well a cheery voice for herself, "Yeah," then she furrowed her brows, "And we're going to eat all of the bread we can consume before we fall asleep." It took her five minutes to grab all of her stuff and she was out of the door and walking toward her rental. It was the first time in months that she had a smile on her face for no reason. Sure she was super busy with everything dealing with work, and her last weeks in school, but for the first time it felt like there was a silver lining she was coming up to. And it felt nice. It felt really nice. She didn't know where she was headed, and the first in a while Cate didn't have any plans for herself. She was just going to enjoy life. When she got to the rental she walked to the trunk to place everything in the there except for her purse. She shook her wrists a bit to pull the bracelet down from her arm. She really needed to get it resized before she lost it. When she shook her wrist a bit to watch the charms dangle against her wrist and thumb she noticed something. Her fingertips looked as if they were glowing. Maybe it was the light from one of the street lights reflecting off of her in the weirdest of ways, but even Cate knew that was a stretch, especially considering all of the things that's been happening to her lately. She turned her hand up to stare at her palm. She turned her head just to make sure no one was watching her, but she stretched her fingers out and it was as if it was second nature what she did next. She stared down at her fingers as she watched a light appear from each finger to illuminate them. Was this Carol coming through? she thought. No, she felt like herself. There were no headaches, but there was just an unexplainable light coming from her fingers. She turned her hand down parallel with the ground and when she did a light beam was emitted from her fingers and bounced off of the ground. She moved her hand just as soon as she did it and glanced around to see if anyone was outside to see that.
Luckily she was the only one in the parking lot. She wasn't afraid or weirded out, but she needed to get in her car and figure out what all of this meant. Funny enough, she was still in a really good mood, despite everything.
