When she was ten years old her father would take her to the Westfield International Air Show where she was first fascinated with following in her father's footsteps. When she reached sixteen, she maintained a flawless 4.0 GPA in school. Thanks to her father, she was all set to become a pilot like him to make him proud of her instead her dreams were crushed when her father told her she would be better suited as a flight attendant and not a pilot because that kind of job is better suited for men. After having that conversation with her father it put a strain on their relationship. He was no longer “Daddy's Little Girl,” and she would challenge her father in every way.
Her senior year of high school Cate was accepted into Harvard, studying psychology. After graduation, she was at a party with a few of her friends when she decided to get into a car with her boyfriend at the time. When they drove back to a car crash when her car swerved off of the road to hit a tree. Fortunately for the both of them their injuries were minor. She hit her head on the steering wheel which caused a concussion. She doesn't remember how long she was out, but she began to have her first of several blackouts.
After her first year at Harvard she was caught on the local news protesting women rights. When the news anchorman asked her something about her stance on the issue, she said something that would rub her father the wrong way. From that moment on, her father cut off any funding he was sending her because he found her little “stunt” on television as disrespectful. She doesn't talk much about the incident. Because her father cut off her financial legs, it meant that it would take Cate longer than usual to complete her degree. She started taking odd jobs around the city to pay for school.
After her first year in school, she began to regret not pursuing her first love which was to become a pilot. She doesn't know if she's not pursuing it out of spite of her father, or something else. After finishing her prerequisite, she decided to stay with to get a degree in Journalism. She wanted to make a difference in the world, and stand up for people when they can't stand up for themselves. Despite giving up her first dream of becoming a pilot, she had a new one.
She also started working on The Harvard Crimson. She found working on the paper for her school really therapeutic. Most of her articles with the paper dealt with women rights. Her editor thought she should deal with things that are “relevant” to women like fashion and diet tips other than careers dealing with feminism. Due to the fact she would clash with her editor over and over about this issue.
She has studied martial arts since she was a little girl. This came in handy for her because one of the jobs she has is a self-defense class at the local fitness center. She uses this job as a way to empower women by teaching them how to defend themselves. She takes great pride in this job.
When Cate turned 27 she began to take pilot lessons and soon she'll have her own pilot license. Even though she won't be a commercial pilot, at least she can fly in her own leisure which is something she's looking forward to.
Cate still suffers from blackouts that are from her car accident. After visiting a few specialist about the issue, they still can't figure out why she's having them. The blackouts lead to vicious nightmares that she has no idea why or any idea why she's having them. She doesn't know if this is her conscience telling her something that she doesn't know. The more she pursues her degree she thinks there's more out there for her that she hasn't discovered yet.
